Full of mystery and legend, Guanajuato is located in a basin of the Sierra Madre mountains, with much of its perimeter creeping upwards along the walls of the valley. This former mining city was once home to José Carpio, a young and talented man known as El Cantador whose singing and guitar-playing earned him fame in the 18th century.
